In yet another move towards achieving food security, the government is planning to launch special scheme for young Qatari farmers to boost food production.
"The special scheme will be introduced and implemented in association with the agriculture department and Qatar Development Bank," Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rumaihi told Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the inauguration of the annual dates festival in Doha on Thursday.
"The feasibility study to identify the maximum area of arable land is under process. The plan will be implemented after completion of the study," Rumaihi said.
He said the government will offer all support such as latest technology, food processing and marketing to local farmers.
