Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan Kodirzoda Sadi Sanginmurod underscored that there are huge and multiple opportunities to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Tajikistan, with a common desire to move cooperation to advanced stages.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Sanginmurod said, “We take the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as another opportunity to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation in all sectors.”
He said, “High-level meetings and talks testify to the desire of the parties to compare notes on all spectrums of issues of mutual significance. Undoubtedly, since both countries have opportunities to establish mutually beneficial cooperation by using Qatar’s investments to process Tajik raw materials and produce high value-added end products for export. One of the strategic goals in Tajikistan is the implementation of accelerated industrialization.”
He said, “In this direction, large-scale work has been launched and important programs have been adopted for each area of industry. These measures provide an opportunity to attract foreign investment for the implementation of major investment projects and achieve the goals set for the accelerated industrialisation of the country.”
“One of the promising and effective areas of cooperation between the financial and investment circles of Tajikistan and Qatar can be the creation of joint ventures in the areas of light and textile industries, mining and production of building materials, as well as pharmaceuticals based on raw materials of our country. We can also offer Qatari investors to work in the field of agriculture, including the processing of agricultural products, and other promising industries.”
He said, “Complex processing of products of this industry in accordance with world standards will allow us to realize the advantages of our country in the supply of environmentally friendly products to regional and other international markets and will contribute to ensuring food security. We have great opportunities for the implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy, which will have to be fully developed and implemented. In addition, Qatari banks can open their branches in Tajikistan and develop Islamic banking, which is beginning to develop in our country.”
He stressed the importance of combining Qatari investments and Tajik potential as Qatar’s sovereign investment fund Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) is already investing in infrastructure and energy projects around the world.
“We intend to attract Qatari investments for the development of tourism infrastructure, including mountain tourism, as well as the creation of favorable conditions for the export of clean drinking water to Qatar,” he said.
He said, “On August 25, 2011, an Agreement on Mutual Protection and Investment Promotion was signed between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the State of Qatar.”
“Within the framework of this Agreement, such projects as “Construction of the residential and business complex “Diyar Dushanbe” and “Construction of a large modern mosque” are being implemented in the city of Dushanbe. Construction work on the construction project of the “Great modern mosque in the city of Dushanbe” has been fully completed. We will continue to comprehensively promote the implementation of such projects on mutuallybeneficial terms.”
He said, “We are ready to create all appropriate conditions for comprehensive support of investment initiatives of Qatari companies and intend to hold the next Tajik-Qatari investment forum in the fourth quarter of this year.”
