Samarkand

Qatar and Uzbekistan signed a host of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in various fields as His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and President of Republic of Uzbekistan HE Shavkat Mirziyoyev held an official talks session at the Congress Center in the city of Samarkand on Tuesday.

At the outset of the session, the Uzbek president welcomed HH the Amir and the accompanying delegation to the city of Samarkand, looking forward to strengthening relations between the two countries in various fields.

For his part, HH the Amir expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, pointing out that the two countries have many elements to consolidate cooperation and push relations to broader horizons.

During the session, they discussed the existing friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries and means of enhancing and developing them in various fields.

HH the Amir and the Uzbek president also discussed ways to implement investment and trade plans between the two countries in a way that supports the economy and development plans of the two sides, in addition to the events and developments on the regional and international arenas.

Later, HH the Amir and the Uzbekistan president witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding and cooperation between the governments of the two countries.

HH the Amir and the Uzbek president witnessed the signing of an agreement on mutual encouragement and protection of investments; a memorandum of cooperation in the field of trade between the State of Qatar's Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Republic of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade; an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and the prevention of fiscal evasion; an agreement on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs affairs; an agreement on cooperation in the field of recruiting workers; an agreement on exemption from travel visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports; and an agreement on cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research.

They also witnessed the signing of a cooperation program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2023-25; a cooperation programme between the Ministry of Justice of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan; a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the fields of youth and sports between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan; a memorandum of understanding between the Doha Municipality in the State of Qatar and the Municipality of Tashkent in the Republic of Uzbekistan to establish friendship relations; a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of culture between the governments of the two countries; a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security between the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Agriculture Resources in the Republic of Uzbekistan; a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Agriculture Resources in the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of plant protection and agricultural quarantine between the governments of the two countries, and a letter of intent between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan for joint cooperation in the field of investment.

The talks session was attended by Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and a number of senior officials members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir.

On the Uzbek side, the session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Head of the Administration of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Agriculture Resources Aziz Voitov, Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazarbekov Ozodbek Akhmadovich, and a number of senior officials.

After that, HH the Amir and President of Uzbekistan planted a tree in the visitors' area designated for leaders and presidents in the Congress Center's garden as a symbol of the visit.

HH the Amir attended the luncheon banquet hosted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the friendly Republic of Uzbekistan in honour of His Highness and the accompanying delegation.
