THE Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), carried out a surprise inspection campaign at the Central Market in Abu Hamour area and detected 102 violations by street vendors.
The violating street peddlers who were operating at the market without having valid commercial licences have been referred to the security authorities for further legal action against them.
The campaign aims to monitor the extent to which suppliers comply with the obligations stipulated in Law No 5 of 2015 on commercial and industrial outlets, similar public facilities and street peddlers and the Ministerial Decree No 243 of 2016 regarding controls and licensing requirements for street peddlers work.
The inspection campaigns come within the MEC's keenness to monitor compliance with the laws and regulations governing the practice of commercial activities and to detect violations.
Meanwhile, the MEC has hinted at intensifying the inspection campaign in future to curb such practices and has urged consumers to report any violations, complaints or suggestions through its different communication channels.
