Police in central Pakistan have stormed the residential compound of former premier Imran Khan after shots were fired at them from the rooftop, officials say.

Police entered the house on court orders where Khan has been holed up to evade arrest. His supporters have been camping outside for several days.

The police had search warrants issued by a local anti-terrorism court, says Amir Mir, information minister of the central province of Punjab.

Khan was not at the residence at the time it was stormed, as he was already on his way to the capital Islamabad to attend a court hearing after a week of defiance.
