Public Transport Company Mowasalat's smart buses with greater safety and comfort features, which are on display at the ongoing QITCOM 2017, are awaiting approval from authorities to hit Doha roads, according to a Mowasalat official.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, a senior official at Mowasalat's Information Technology and Communication Department, said the buses, if approved, are 'likely to hit Doha streets in the last quarter of 2017'.
He added,"The buses are designed to provide safer and comfortable journey for the public."
The smart buses are equipped with digital technology which ensures greater safety.
The wide digital display inside the buses will portray the route and location of the bus and there will be announcement of the arrival of every bus stop for the convenience of passengers.
"The distance and the expected time to reach a destination will be displayed on the screen inside the bus. Besides, the screens will also show traffic jams or barriers if any on a route and alert the driver about it," he pointed out.
The surveillance cameras installed inside the bus will be connected to the Customer Care Department at Mowasalat headquarters."Thus, the Customer Care Department or Mowasalat Centre can monitor the crowd and driver's behaviour. Such visual information will help Mowasalat to rearrange their routes, according to the number of passengers," he said.
Through these digital networks Mowasalat can monitor each bus and respond immediately in case of an accident or breakdown. Through these advanced system, Mowasalat can also monitor the fuel consumption and overall performance of fleets.
