Speaker of the Shura Council HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met separately with President of the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe and President of African Parliamentary Union HE Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean HE Pedro Roque, and Executive Secretary of the Interparliamentary Committee of the G5 HE Sahel Tankoano Norbert.

These meetings came on the sidelines of the work of the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting for Parliamentary Policy Dialogue on border security and cross-border cooperation in the context of counter-terrorism.

The meeting, held in Doha, was organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Doha-based UN Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, in cooperation with the Shura Council.

HE Speaker of the Shura Council discussed with the parliamentary officials a number of matters related to strengthening the role of parliaments in supporting national and international efforts in counter terrorism. He also discussed the parliamentary cooperation relations and ways to advance them.

The participants praised the efforts of Qatar in fighting terrorism and extremism, noting its constant endeavour to enhance international peace and security, and its contribution to achieve sustainable developments goals.

They also noted the importance of the activities organised by UNOCT and the Doha-based UN Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, appreciating the support of the Shura Council for the activities of the office.
