QNADohaDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah inaugurated a callisthenics park in in Meqdam camp on Tuesday, in conjunction with the National Sports Day. The park has entered the Guinness World Records for being the largest of its kind in the world.The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture and Sports HE Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, and a number of ranking officers in the armed forces.On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs received the Guinness World Records certificate, via video conference technology. What is callisthenics?Originally, callisthenics was a method of promoting health, but it’s evolved into a training method that shares a lot in common with gymnastics. Unlike gymnastics, though, it can be practised outdoors and is known as a ‘street workout’.According to the Guinness World Records, the calisthenics park in Qatar measures 1446.72 square metres and was achieved by the National Service Academy (Qatar), in Doha on February 4. "The National Service Academy attempted this record title to celebrate Qatar's National Sports Day on February 9. The callisthenics park both holds national callisthenics tournaments and is open for the general public to use."
