‘The Story of a Ball’ enters

Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the largest painting on canvas in the world, completed by artist Imad Salehi, at Qatar University on Wednesday, in the presence of a number of dignitaries and a representative of the Guinness Foundation.
The 9,652-square metre work, titled ‘The Story of a Ball’, officially entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest painting in the world at the ceremony.
The painting tells the story of a ball and recalls the history of the game, explaining the nature of the balls used, the host countries of the tournament, the World Cup winners and the best players and scorers in all the previous editions of the World Cup.
During the inaugural ceremony, a video was shown about the stages of completion of the huge artwork, and a tour was organized to get a closer look at the artistic painting drawn on the canvas. Following this, the Guinness Book of Records certificate was handed over, marking its entry into the record book, in the presence of the media.
On the occasion, the minister said, “The Ministry of Culture spares no effort to highlight the works of creators and support distinguished works of art.” He added that the painting is an embodiment of the great global event that Qatar is witnessing.”
On the occasion, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Faisal Holding, said, “It is my pleasure to witness this important cultural event, and to be in “Al-Faisal Holding” among the supporters of this huge artwork that was accomplished by the artist Imad Salehi. In his creative way, he talks about the close relationship between art, culture and sports, which would unite peoples and bring them closer to one another, regardless of their origins and races.
