Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar University’s College of Engineering on Sunday launched a competition to harnesses technology and innovation to design engineering solutions to fight the coronavirus pandemic.Titled, “Global Virtual Design and Innovation Competition – Corona Virus (Covid 19)” the competition will be held under the slogan “Reengineering the future of health care and improving life - impact design”.The competition includes several categories, including designing mobile applications for coronavirus mitigation, non-chemical disinfection devices and tools such as ventilation valves, breathing filters and masks using 3D technology.Designing smart, affordable and mobile buildings that can be assembled quickly into a field hospital to accommodate infected patients are also part of the competition.Entries for the competition can be filed until June 24. The winners will be announced on September 24, 2020, which will be followed by an international virtual exhibition on October 20.The entries are open in six official languages of the United Nations — English, Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish.Design is required to be original work, that an individual or an integrated team can participate in, and that the idea is technology-inspired, supports sustainable innovation, and is scalable.The university said the competition comes in the context of the urgent need to develop the industry of scientific and medical technologies to respond to the challenge of the Corona virus, and in light of expectations that large numbers around the world will be infected with the virus, which increases the pressure on health systems in various countries.
