Team India made history, delivering a double gold in cricket. After the women’s team, the men’s team beat Pakistan in the gold medal clash by 19 runs at the ongoing Asian Games on Saturday. Led by a power-packed batting display, the Indian bowlers were able to see through a top podium finish in Nagoya. While Pakistan claimed a silver, Sri Lanka emerged triumphant over Bangladesh to clinch the bronze medal. Pakistan reached 192 for 6 in chase of India’s total of 211 (for 6 wkts) but feel short by 19 runs. India opener Abhishek Sharma (61) set the tone early on in the game, cracking three fours and a whopping seven sixes. India didn’t let go of their advantage as bowlers maintained a tight grip. While Hasan Nawaz went on to score a commendable 96 off 51 balls, wickets falling at the other end meant Pakistan fell short of the total by 19 runs. Sri Lanka claimed bronze as all-rounder Tharindu Ratnayake delivered with both bat and the ball in the third-place play off against bangladesh earlier in the day.
