The Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the top winner students of the boys schools at the closing scene of the 15th edition of Schools Olympic Program at the Aspire Dome on Saturday.
The SOP boys closing ceremony was also attended by QOC First Vice-President HE Mohamed Yousef Al Mana, QOC Second Vice-President HE Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, Chairman of Qatar School Sports Association HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Aspire Zone Foundation CEO Mohammed Khalifa Al Suwaidi and senior officials from the QOC, QSSA and Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The 15th edition of SOP has seen students competing in multiple sport disciplines, including athletics, shooting, football and basketball, as their total number hits 469 from a large scale of Qatari schools. This rising number of students proves that SOP has rounded the corner and confirmed that sport is playing a center stage role in keeping students healthy and to discover new talents for national clubs and teams.
Most notably, the first edition of Schools Olympic Program was launched during schools year 2007-2008 under the slogan Sport and Health, as Qatar was the first ever and a leading nation worldwide that adopted this program to promote sports culture among students and community and to encourage different age groups involve in sport activities and to adopt a better lifestyle, free from modern diseases.
