Leading Qatari contracting company Galfar Al Misnad was honoured by the Ministry of Labour (MoL) for its consistent efforts towards protecting health and safety of employees at work place, at Occupational Safety and Health Conference held by the ministry recently.
Galfar’s Executive Director Satish G Pillai and Senior General Manager Hemachandran received the award from the Minister of Labour HE Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri at the event. Galfar was one of the only six companies to be felicitated at the function by the ministry.
Galfar Al Misnad is currently working on strategic nation building projects with leading clients in Qatar, and in all the projects, the contracting company has shown a high level of commitment by maintaining their excellent HSE performance.
The event was organized by MoL to observe the World Day for Safety and Health At Work, which is commemorated on April 28 every year. The theme for this year was ‘Occupational Safety and Health – Commitments and Responsibilities’. The conference was held in collaboration with the National Human Rights Committee, International Labour Organization (ILO) and International Federation of Building and Woodwork (BWI).
“This is a great honour for Galfar, as we have been working on very challenging projects in a vast range of sectors in Qatar for more than 26 years, and mostly engage with direct manpower. Such recognition reaffirms our commitment towards safety and is a motivation for the team to do even better,” said Galfar Al Misnad’s head of QHSE, Navaneetha Shetty.
Galfar Al Misnad places utmost priority to Health and Safety in all their activities. The leading Qatari construction company is also an eight time recipient of the International Safety Award from British Safety Council (BSC), and was recently awarded the prestigious award for the sixth consecutive year. In addition, they also won BSC’s Best in Country Award 2021 for the Roads and Infrastructure Development in Al Wajba East (Pkg 01) that they are currently executing for Ashghal. “Galfar’s consistent performance in both global and national safety awards is due to the diligent implementation of a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System by our team. We believe that continual improvement in health and safety performance can only be achieved by engaging all levels of employees into the HSE programme,” explained Satish G Pillai.
Galfar has initiated regular proactive programs like monthly HSE campaigns on different topics; the successful QSTAR – Quality Safety Training and Recognition – programme, which is a unique behavior based engagement initiative at construction sites; senior management walkthroughs and visits at sites & facilities; monthly incentives; and the implementation of the Galfar Golden Rules (GGR) program; to sustain and continually improve the health and safety performance in all its operations.
