Doha

Work hours at government offices in Qatar will be reduced to five hours in the morning from next month to help the country deal with the FIFA World Cup rush.

According to the Government Communications Office, state-run offices will work from 7 am to 11 am from November 1 to December 19, with 80 percent of the staff switching to remote work during the period.

In-person work is only allowed for only 20 percent of the staff, GCO Official Spokesman Dr Mohammed bin Nuwaymi Al Hajri said on Wednesday.

Vital sectors such as military, security, health and education have been excluded from these decisions.

Private and international companies will continue in their regular schedules, Dr Hajri said.

Doha Corniche, he added, would be dedicated to pedestrians during the period to ensure the continuation of the events accompanying the World Cup.

Schools

All government and private schools in Qatar will follow a 7 am-12-schedule for both students and staff from November 1 to 17, Dr Hajri said, with the schools breaking for the mid-term holiday from November 20 to December 22.
