Qatar Chamber recently held a meeting with Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries (AIMMP) to reviews economic and commercial cooperation fields between the Qatari private sector and its Portuguese counterpart.
The meeting was attended by board member Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidly from the Chamber side while President of AIMMP Vitor Pocas presided over the Portuguese side, in the presence of a number of representatives of Portuguese companies.
Addressing the meeting, Obaidly stressed that Qatari businessmen are interested to learn about opportunities available in Portugal and to establish partnerships with their Portuguese counterparts in wood and furniture sectors. He said Qatar and Portugal enjoy distinct relations and their bilateral trade volume grew by 60 percent from QR467 million in 2020 to QR751 million last year.
Obaidly invited Portuguese companies to invest in Qatar and take advantage of incentives offered for foreign investors in light of its attractive legislation and world-class infrastructure, underscoring the Chamber’s preparedness to inform them on opportunities galore in Qatar with the aim to enhance cooperation with Qatari companies in genuine partnerships.
Vitor Pocas said the visiting delegation, which consists of representatives from 25 companies specialized in wood and furniture industries, is interested to get acquainted with the Qatari market and discuss the possibility to forge partnerships and alliances with Qatari firms, pointing out that these companies showcased their products at the “Build You House” exhibition which was recently held at Qatar National Convention Centre.
AIMMP, he said, represents Portuguese companies operating in wood and furniture sectors, indicating that about 8700 companies are members in the association and that their exports exceeded last year $2.6 billion.
Pocas affirmed his keenness to boost cooperation with Qatar Chamber in a way that strengthen cooperation between companies from both countries, stressing that Qatar market is an important market in GCC and Middle East region, which is a leading destination for Portuguese exports from wood and furniture.
