Berlin The Red Cross has warned that the humanitarian aid situation is deteriorating in Yemen because of a lack of funding and access to people in need. “Access to the displaced and to the different groups is more and more limited in this conflict, and that just makes aid so incredibly difficult,” Carolin Kneisel, Yemen country officer at the German Red Cross, said. Aid organisations are also facing financial pressures, she said. The Red Cross supports Yemeni health care, the provision of clean drinking water and the reconstruction of schools. “It is a huge effort, but we can do it,” Kneisel countered. Yemen has been embroiled in a power struggle since late 2014, when the Houthi rebels seized control of the capital Sana’a. (agencies)
