Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari on Monday placed the cornerstone for establishing Al Waab Dialysis and Diabetes Center, which is being built as a charity contribution by Abnaa Mohammed Al Mana Real Estate under the management of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The outpatient facility, which is expected to be completed in two years, will have 78 renal dialysis treatment stations, three peritoneal dialysis units as well as separate nephrology and diabetic clinics.
It will also have a ground floor emergency department entrance as well as some social services with a café, offices, seminar and conference room, a pharmacy, courtyard, waiting and reception areas, a day activity room, two prayer rooms as well as ample car parking.
This centre aims to meet increasing public need for primary healthcare services and to keep pace with the nation’s huge advancements in healthcare.
HMC’s Chief of Healthcare Facilities Development and Acting Chief Business Services, Hamad Nasser Al Khalifa said, “Establishing Al Waab Dialysis and Diabetes Center furthers HMC’s efforts to provide citizens and residents with the best treatment services, as it shall improve levels of our dialysis and diabetes services. We look forward to further collaboration with Al Mana Real Estate.”
For his part, CEO of Almana Real Estate Abdullah bin Hamad Almana said, “We are confident that this will be one of this country’s leading health centers while employing the highest standards of quality. It will be equipped with the latest international medical technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and diabetes and have an emergency department fully endowed with vital medical equipment and supplies.”
According to Al Mana, the patients will benefit from consultation, treatment, clinical support services, and patient amenities. “Up to 88 dialysis patients can be treated simultaneously with separate treatment rooms for those requiring additional privacy.”
He added that the centre is to be constructed to ‘green building’ standards with sustainability at its core.
“Sustainability has been a primary consideration in the design process. The design incorporates green architecture techniques and sustainability has been a primary concern in planning the patient, staff and visitor as well as waste management flow, to create a harmonious community.”
The partners have designed the three-storey facility as a modern, well-lit primary healthcare centre to be built from stone, concrete, glass, and steel.
According to Al Mana, the centre is designed in a contemporary way, which while reflecting Qatari culture also exemplifies the architectural boom witnessed by Qatar.
Construction will use state-of-the-art materials and technologies with the hotel-like design aimed at reflecting hope and tranquility both within and outside the center and enhancing its safe and secure environment.
“We have also included a cultural touch into the architectural design with a crisscrossed pattern skylight which symbolises the Arab costume, lighting up the entrance and stairways to make patients feel familiar and relaxed,” said Al Mana.
The nephrology department includes 78 hemodialysis units, three peritoneal dialysis units and two dialysis units for VIPs.
There are isolated dialysis treatment rooms and four care clinics for patients with advanced kidney disease as well as clinics devoted to general nephrology, ophthalmology, cardiology, home dialysis, podiatry, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy.
In addition, the diabetes treatment department, which includes eight diabetes stations with diabetic equipment, a dedicated IV clinic room, three assessment stations and three treatment stations as well as two dietician consulting rooms and injection therapy clinics.
The new centre will be open from 7am – 9pm with staff operating two shifts.
It will provide services for patients requiring regular renal dialysis approximately half of whom also suffer from diabetes.Facility will be ready in 2 years
