Umm Salal beat Al Sadd 3-2 in Round 3, Group A of the 2022-2023 season Ooredoo Cup at the Al Egla Stadium 4 on Saturday. Sardor Rashidov (44th minute), Joao Teixiera (58th minute), and Ilyes Brimil (69th minute) scored for Umm Salal, while Hassan Ahmad (third minute) and Santi Cazorla (50th minute) did the scoring act for Al Sadd.

Al Wakrah, Al Ahli, Qatar SC and Al Sailiya are the other teams in Group A. Group B comprises Al Duhail, Al Markhiya, Al Arabi, Al Shamal, Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan. The win was the third successive one for Umm Salal, who are now Group A leaders with nine points. Al Sadd, who had won their earlier two matches, conceded their first defeat. They have six points.

In another match of the day, Al Ahli got the better of Qatar SC 2-1 in Round 3, Group A, at the Qatar University Stadium 4. Both Al Ahli and Qatar SC were locked 1-1 at half-time after an absorbing session. The action grew more intense and exciting as the two teams rallied to get the winner, and it was Al Ahli who eventually succeeded.

In the third clash of the evening, Al Wakrah defeated reigning champions Al Sailiya 1-0 also in Group A at the Al Ersal 2 Stadium.

Hamad Mansour scored the winner off a penalty kick in the 64th minute. He slotted home the rebound off Al Sailiya goalkeeper Abdrahman Mahamat after he blocked the kick taken by Ismail Mahmoud.

Al Wakrah thus moved on to three points following their first victory, while Al Sailiya have yet to open their account. (TNN)
