The seventh session of Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee meeting, to be led by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, will be held in Doha on December 7, Ambassador of Republic of Turkey to Qatar HE Dr Mustafa Goksu has said.
The Turkish envoy said that President Erdogan will be heading a large official delegation consisting of ministers, businessmen and parliamentarians.
The Supreme Strategic Committee meeting will be held for two days and a number of agreements for cooperation in various sectors between Qatar and Turkey are to be signed during the meeting.
He said that since the establishment of the Supreme Strategic Committee in 2014, around 68 agreements have been signed by the two countries in various sectors, including economy, energy, investment, security, defence, education, culture, youth, intellectual property, and other vital areas of cooperation.
Among the additional agreements expected to be signed during the forthcoming meeting covers diversified areas like trade, investment, health, sports, culture, relief, youth, and diplomacy.
“We are confident that the new agreements will further strengthen the brotherly ties between Qatar and Turkey and will reflect on the growth and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East,” he said.
The Turkish envoy added that both the countries have had a common stance on a number of regional and international issues most notably Syrian crisis, tense political situation in Libya, combating terrorism, and Afghanistan.
“There is permanent coordination between Ankara and Doha on Afghan issue, especially on the humanitarian situation, security and political developments in Afghanistan,” he said.
He commended Qatar for sending humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and hosting them temporarily until they move to their next destination.
Talking about bilateral economic and trade relations between Qatar and Turkey, the envoy said these ties can be seen from the fast increase in trade volume recorded at nearly $1.5 billion.
“Turkey’s main exports to Qatar include building material, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture, carpets, jewellery and dairy products, whereas, Qatar’s exports to Turkey are mainly unprocessed aluminum, liquefied gas (LNG), and plastic products,” he said.
The envoy noted that 183 Qatar companies are operating in Turkey and around 711 Turkish companies are operating in Qatar, including 47 companies with 100 percent Turkish capital, and around 15 companies registered in the Qatar Free Zone.
He pointed out that Qatari investments in Turkey until December 2020 had reached $33.2 billion, whereas Turkish investment values at $32 million.
He added that the total value of the projects implemented by the Turkish contracting companies in Qatar amounted to $18.6 billion. Also, Qatar is the eighth country in which most projects are implemented outside Turkey.
