The Permanent Population Committee has celebrated the Qatar Population Day, which is celebrated in October each year.
The Chairman of the committee, Dr Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit — who is also the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority, said the fourth phase of the Population Policy Action Programme has made significant achievements in all of its six axes.
These achievements were manifested by a number of indicators, including the high labour force participation rate, which reached 88.2 percent in 2020, one of the highest in the world, he said.
The gains also include a decrease in the unemployment rate, which did not exceed 0.1 percent in 2020, as well as a decrease in the dependency ratio and a significant decrease in the demographic dependency ratio. This percentage decreased from 40.4 percent in 1986 to 20 percent in 2020, reflecting the rise in the standard of living in Qatar.
