The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Radiation and Chemicals Protection Department, organised a virtual event on Thursday to commemorate the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, which falls on the third Saturday of September each year.
The event was attended by a number of officials and interested persons from government and academic agencies, representatives of the Regional Office for West Asia, contact points in the GCC countries, and representatives of the commercial sector working in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.
Several major themes were discussed during the event, which coincided with the Montreal Protocol’s theme for this year, “Keeping us, our food, and vaccines cool.” It began with an introduction to World Ozone Day, followed by an explanation of the ozone layer and its location, as well as the role of the ozone team in carrying out all obligations under the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol. The ongoing use of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment has been addressed.
The effect of “cooling” on the storage of “COVID-19” vaccines was also highlighted, as were the appropriate temperatures for each type of vaccination.
The use of transportation vehicles and electric motors in logistics areas, rather than cars that run on oil derivatives, was also examined in order to reduce the effects of emitted hydrocarbon compounds, reduce pollution and emissions, generate electricity, and rely on fixed energy sources.
Certificates of thanks and appreciation were presented at the event’s conclusion to the organizations and businesses that provided support and assistance in carrying out the obligations of the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol.
