Bayanihan Qatar, a federation of more than 20 Filipino community groups, led a beach clean-up activity at Simaisma beach recently.
The event, attended by about 176 people, was organised in collaboration with its member groups GRRI, KBBP and The Filipino Community (TFC).
"The beach clean-up drive was our way of thanking Qatar as our second home and giving back to the community. It also served as a team building activity for us. We look forward to hosting beach clean-up activities monthly to continue our efforts in raising awareness of the public on the importance of caring for our environment,” said Eng Jerry Ronquillo, Bayanihan Qatar president.
Other community groups that supported the initiative included Bayanihan ng mga Manggagawa sa Konstruksyon ng Qatar (BMKQ), Buklod ng Bayanihang Filipino sa Qatar (BBFQ), Bantay at Kasangga ng OFW International Inc, GABII, TSQ, AGWI, TKSQ, Filipino Institute, GSSI, Advocate, GP OFW, RUGBII MODG Matapat, TGBI-TO and TSDQ.
Aside from cleaning up public beaches across Qatar, Ronquillo also said they will be holding a safety-awareness training for domestic workers as part of their programmes this year.
Last month, BAK, a member of Bayanihan Qatar, spearheaded a blood-donation drive at the HMC Blood Donation Center participated in by 67 donors. Bayanihan Qatar had earlier organised a number of awareness trainings and seminars for its members on diverse topics including for career advancement.
Aside from Ronquillo, the Bayanihan Qatar leadership also includes Eliseo Bermedo (VP Internal), Engr. Roldan Maghanoy (VP External), Mygel Osayan (Secretary) and Adelyn Lucanas (Treasurer).
