All schools, universities and kindergartens in Qatar will adopt distance learning from Sunday in the wake of a recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) on Thursday decided to suspend the attendance of students of all ages from nurseries to university.
The decision came following coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, and to take all the necessary precautionary measures to advance public interests and protect the health of students and everyone working in the educational process.
As per the decision, administrative and educational school staff will continue their duties in schools. All exams will take place physically in schools, with measures related to that to be announced at a later date.
The ministry stressed that distance learning is an integral part of the educational and academic process. The attendance will be counted even with distance learning.
The ministry called on students to continue engaging with distance learning, and called on parents to ensure their children attend classes.
The ministry added that the distance learning system that was used last academic year as a result of the pandemic is a perfect option for students to continue their education given the current health condition.
The ministry said the system has been updated and developed to build on last year’s experience and better fit the needs of students.
