Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah shot a bronze medal in skeet at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi on Sunday.
The 50-year-old Attiyah, a 2012 London Olympic bronze medalist and an ace rally driver, had a total score of 44 which saw him secure a podium finish.
The vastly experienced Attiyah had earlier World Cup won medals at Lonato del Garda, Italy (2001) and New Delhi (1997). He has also won Asian Championships gold (Doha 2012), and silver (New Delhi 2003) besides Asian Games bronze at Guangzhou in 2010.
The win on Sunday will improve Attiyah’s ranking which could see him qualify for Tokyo 2020 which would be a record seventh Olympics participation by the Qatari shooter.
Jesper Hansen of Denmark clinched the men’s skeet honours on 58 targets, seven clear of Saif bin Futais (51) of the United Arab Emirates in second.
Britain’s Amber Hill claimed the gold medal in the women’s skeet. The Commonwealth Games silver medallist and European Games gold medallist, topped the podium after beating Kazakhstan’s Zoya Kravchenko in a shoot-off.
Both Hill and Kravchenko finished the event on a score of 51 targets, before the Briton edged out the Kazakh 4-3 in the tie-breaker.
Meanwhile, Ganemat Sekhon earned India’s first World Cup podium in the women’s skeet event after hitting 40 targets to take bronze.
The United States overcame the host nation 16-14 to win the men’s team air rifle event, with bronze going to South Korea following their victory over Iran.
Denmark beat the US 16-8 to earn the women’s team air rifle gold, while Poland despatched India 17-7 in the bronze medal final.
