Galfar Al Misnad concluded its annual Safe Driving Awareness campaign with a closing ceremony held at the company’s brand new Plant Base Workshop premises in Jery Al Samur, the company said in a statement on Sunday.

The leading contracting company has been conducting this campaign every year since 2006, with the objective to inculcate a safe driving culture and promote the responsible management of company vehicles and equipment.

Members of the senior management team of Galfar were joined by Faisal al Hudawi, Community Reach Out Office Coordinator (Public Relations Department) from the Ministry of Interior, in addressing the attendees at the event.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Hudawi commended Galfar for the company’s role in upholding and promoting a safe driving culture among employees. He also emphasised on the importance of putting the lessons learnt into practice to ensure safety on the roads, especially in light of the upcoming World Cup tournament.

“This year’s theme for the safe driving campaign was ‘Practice Safety. Knowing is Not Enough.’ Every employee plays a vital role in implementing best driving practices to reduce violations and accidents. Even if another driver causes the danger, the utilisation of defensive driving skills can avert accidents.” said Anwar Sadath, Head of Plant division at Galfar.

Navaneetha Shetty, Head of QHSE division at Galfar, added that it is important to be alert to potential mechanical issues that can arise.

“Promptly acting on built in alerts given by vehicles and equipment play an important role in preventing bigger problems from happening on the road,” he said.

Galfar’s Plant Division manages an in-house fleet strength of more than 1,850 vehicles and equipment, to enable the safe, reliable, and cost-efficient implementation of the company’s vast business operations in Qatar.

More than 1,100 employees comprising of drivers, operators, and staff, benefitted from the month long campaign. Various awareness sessions were conducted by Galfar Al Misnad’s Senior HSE Officer Parag Gaikwad at different site locations as well as on the virtual platform. At the end of each session, the best drivers and operators were recognized and rewarded.

The company has witnessed a continual reduction in traffic violations and road traffic accidents. Consistently providing awareness sessions to employees has largely contributed to these statistics.
