Nine out of 10 Filipinos approve of President Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership, despite criticism over alleged lapses in the government’s response to the pandemic, a survey showed on Monday.
Ninety-one percent of those surveyed approved of Duterte’s performance, according to a nationwide poll conducted for Pulse Asia in September. Just 5 percent of respondents disapproved of Duterte’s presidency, with a further 5 percent undecided. The president also received the same trust rating of 91 percent,  with 6 percent undecided and only 3 percent saying they had little or no trust in their leader, the survey showed.
Duterte has defended his administration’s response to the global pandemic, claiming this prevented up to 3.5 million infections.
On Monday, the Department of Health reported 2,291 new coronavirus infections, pushing the country’s total caseload to 324,762.
