Dedicated work by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) faculty member in many fields, including public health, population health and social computing, has been recognised with a prestigious honour.
Dr Mowafa Said Househ, PhD and associate professor at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), has been elected Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI), established in 2017 under the auspices of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).
IMIA is the world body for health and biomedical information technology. It provides leadership and expertise to multidisciplinary, health-focused communities and policy makers to enable health transformation in line with the global vision of improving the well-being of the human population of the planet.
The Academy’s election is a prestigious honour in the fields of biomedical and health information technology, as it seeks to recognize highly qualified experts in these fields.
Dr Mowafa’s primary research interests are the use of information and communication technologies to empower patients and clinicians, with a particular focus on social media and mobile healthcare technologies to promote public health practice and health literacy.
Dr Mowafa has received several awards, both locally and internationally, and has published more than 130 research articles and at least six books in the field of health information technology. More information about CSE is available on www.cse.hbku.edu.qa.
