THE Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that Umm Lekhba Interchange tunnel on Al Markhiya Street will be closed in both directions from August 16 (Sunday) to facilitate the construction works on Sabah Al Ahmad corridor. Ashghal will keep the service roads on Al Markhiya Street open for local accesses.
During the closure to be implemented in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, commuters will have to use Al Luqta Street and Al Shamal Road to reach Al Markhiya. Road users will be able to use Umm Lekhba Bridge connecting with Al Shamal Road to reach Al Luqta and Al Gharrafa.
Ashghal will instal road signs providing users with advance notice of the new road layout. The Public Works Authority has urged motorists to abide by the new speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety. (TNN)
