THE challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic are multiple and a major issue is the stress and strain that it has led to. DPS Modern Indian School (DPS-MIS) recently held a webinar on ‘Stress Management and Performance Enhancement’ as part of its efforts to promote a culture of wellbeing among the community during this challenging phase of COVID-19.
The webinar was presented by the Principal Director of Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences, OP Jindal Global University, for teachers as well as DPS-MIS students and their parents.
In this powerful and engaging webinar, the topics explored were:
‘Changing learning goals’, ‘Developing protocol and guidelines for students’, ‘Addressing student’s emotional health and ensuring balance between the digital and the screen-free environment’, and ‘Availability of parents to support their children’. The webinar stressed on building positive relationship with students during this pandemic with the involvement of both teachers and parents.
While giving tips for the teachers and parents to enhance performance of students who are under stress, he remarked: “Teaching practices should not only focus on enhancing academic growth, but also encourage emotional growth and social responsibility among students.”
Offering an insight into the retention levels among children, he recommended more moral and activity-based learning for primary children. Dr Sahni explained how to manage this crucial skill by using the 14 commandments.
Elaborating on the 14 commandments, he said that it focused on stress management strategies like strengthening the support system of family and friends, innovative relaxation techniques, inculcating positive thinking, adopting healthy diet and having time for oneself. 
In conclusion, he highlighted the importance of staying positive, developing gratitude and relationship bank, correcting sitting posture, having good sleep, remaining active and physically fit, staying hydrated and recalling positive memories. 
The session was attended by approximately 500 participants, including Principal Ms Asna Nafees, vice principals Ms Soma Bhattacharjee & Ms Hyacinth Mary Cruz and headmistress Ms Sini Menon. The webinar concluded with a question and answer session.
