The Cabinet on Wednesday relaxed some of the restrictions imposed in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The decisions come into effect from Thursday (June 4).
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani through video conference, decided to increase the maximum number of people allowed in a vehicle from two to four, including the driver, with families being exempted.
The Cabinet also amended its decision on determining the work hours for private sector employees present at their place of work. The revised timings are from 7 am to 8 pm.
The Cabinet also amended the decision regarding sports activities, removing the condition for such activities to take place near a person’s home. Also, there is no need to wear masks.
However, the Cabinet affirmed the importance of taking the necessary precautionary measures while engaging in sporting activities, such as avoiding crowding and leaving a safe distance of three metres.
As for people being transported on buses, the Cabinet decided to extend the current decision of allowing a maximum of half a vehicle’s capacity while taking all the necessary precautionary measures.
The Cabinet agreed a draft law that amends some provisions of Law No 14 of 2004. The amendment comes in the framework of the state’s commitment to increase regulation of health and safety requirements and specifications for workers’ housing, and to enhance the protections for workers’ financial rights.
The draft includes criminalising any violations of safety specifications for workers’ housing, in addition to increasing the punishment for employers who do not pay workers.
The Cabinet also approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint cooperation in the field of health between the government of Qatar and the government of Ethiopia.
The Cabinet approved a multilateral Memorandum of Understanding on consultation and exchanging information between regulatory bodies of financial markets in Arab countries who are members of the Union of Arab Securities Authorities.
