The Russian military plans to begin testing a potential coronavirus vaccine on 50 volunteer soldiers at a military research facility in the Moscow region, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.
The soldiers, including five women, have had no recent history of disease and have "voluntarily expressed a desire to participate in the testing,” the statement said.
Russian researchers have been racing to develop a vaccine for the novel coronavirus as the number of cases in the country has surpassed 420,000, the world’s third largest caseload behind that of the United States and Brazil.
