In a first of its kind the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Qatar Airways and Msheireb Properties celebrated Qatar National Day 2019 together at the iconic Msheireb Downtown Doha on Monday.
Held under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim Saif Ahmed al Sulaiti, a number of dignitaries including Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar al Baker, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority President Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al Subaie, Msheireb Properties Acting Chief Executive Officer Ali al Kuwari, Hamad International Airport Chief Operating Officer Badr al Meer were present on the occasion.
Organised at Baraht Msheireb, variety of activities showcasing Qatar’s rich culture and traditions and an exciting live performance by Kuwaiti singer Ibrahim Dashti was organised on the occasion.
Qatari pianist Hala al Emadi and singer Mohamad al Jaber enchanted the audience with their outstanding performance. The celebrations also featured various activities showcasing local Qatari culture, such as henna art, falconry, traditional handicrafts and local food.
Speaking on the occasion, Sulaiti said, “Qatar National Day is a great occasion to renew our determination to continue all efforts that support the development of our country. It is an occasion to reiterate our commitment for achieving more prosperity for Qatar and its people.”
The minister said, “We at the Ministry of Transport and Communications are looking forward to new achievements and milestones to enhance the efforts that aim for building sustainable transportation and communications sectors. Our efforts are aimed at securing a booming national economy for generations to come.”
Addressing the gathering Baker said, “One of Qatar Airways’ core values is expressing our pride, loyalty and love for Qatar, and the National Day celebrations offers a chance for us to express the patriotism that is shared by all of Qatari citizens and residents regardless of their country of origin.”
Msheireb Properties acting chief executive officer said, “It is our pleasure to partner with Qatar Airways and the Ministry of Transport and Communications to host the first ever public National Day celebration in Baraht Msheireb. Msheireb Downtown Doha is the heart of the city and the oldest commercial, social, and civic hub known in Doha. The historic significance of the area makes it the best venue for everyone to gather and celebrate Qatar National Day.”
“It is one of the biggest Qatar National Day celebrations that I have witnessed in the last 10 years of my stay in Qatar. The vibrant ambiance of Baraht Msheireb is something that I had never seen before. I feel privileged to have participated in this grand celebration,” an employee of Qatar Airways said.
In addition to grand celebrations at Msheireb Downtown Doha, Qatar Airways also celebrated Qatar National Day in the skies by introducing a variety of special touches on board and generous discounts on tickets.
On flights from Doha, passengers can enjoy a bespoke menu card influenced by modern Arabic calligraphy and dessert inspired by the shape of the local desert sand rose. Customers in premium cabins will be treated to traditional Arabic coffee and dates.While on select flights from Doha, passengers will receive a fridge magnet as a keepsake to commemorate Qatar National Day.
Passengers travelling during the Qatar National Day celebrations will also enjoy decorations of roses at various locations including Al Safwa First Class Lounge, Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge and at the A380 onboard lounge.

The world’s fastest-growing airline has added a number of exciting new destinations to its growing network this year, including Rabat, Morocco; Izmir, Turkey; Malta; Davao, Philippines; Lisbon, Portugal; Mogadishu, Somalia; and Langkawi, Malaysia; and Gaborone, Botswana. The airline will also add Luanda, Angola; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Santorini, Greece and Osaka, Japan in 2020.
