Hamburg: Several thousand people called for an end to animal testing and demanded the closure of a controversial laboratory near the northern German port city of Hamburg.
Some 7,300 participants joined the peaceful protest on Saturday, police in Hamburg said.
The organisers, a group called Soko Tierschutz, are fighting against a lab in Mienenbuettel. They say that dogs and monkeys are mistreated there in violation of German laws.
An activist had gained access pretending to be a staffer. German prosecutors are investigating the accusations of cruelty against laboratory animals.
The company, Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology, said it would cooperate, but did not comment on the investigation. (DPA)
