DOHA: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced the gradual rollout of the Standard Economic Classification System for Economic Activities, aligning with the ISIC4 classification adopted across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
The initiative is part of national efforts to enhance Qatar's business environment, MoCI said.
The new system will be introduced gradually, beginning with the company establishment phase, to enhance the accuracy and alignment of economic activity classification with international standards.
The new classification system comprises over 2,500 specialised economic codes, each assigning a unique digital identifier to a specific economic activity. This system will support business research and analysis, enable the generation of economic statistics, and create a standardised database to inform future economic policy planning. It will also equip decision-makers with timely and accurate insights.
