DOHA: Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser attended the opening of the AutismTech Conference, organised by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) with the aim of contributing to improving the lives of individuals with autism.

The conference, which runs until April 16, is being held in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, Mada Assistive Technology Center, Autism Speaks, and the Autism Science Foundation.

On the sidelines of the conference, Sheikha Moza held a high-level meeting with a group of autism experts from the United States, in the presence of Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani. The meeting aimed to discuss ways of strategic cooperation to raise global awareness of the urgent need to increase investment in autism, address the unmet needs of adults with autism, develop comprehensive services at the national level, and enact comprehensive legislation that promotes inclusiveness in the education, healthcare, and community sectors.

The AutismTech Conference brings together global leaders in autism research and related fields, including artificial intelligence, computing technologies, and other emerging disciplines, to spark dialogues and discussions on how to accelerate the implementation, development, and integration of innovative solutions that contribute to improving the lives of individuals with autism and their families, as well as supporting their healthcare providers.

The conference, which coincides with Autism Awareness Month, presents approaches to how pioneering research and emerging technologies can revolutionize learning outcomes, treatment methods, and social integration for individuals with autism in local and global settings.

On this occasion, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University Dr Ahmad M Hasnah said: “There is no doubt that the AutismTech Conference consolidates the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar in raising awareness of autism spectrum disorder at the global level, based on the strong call made by Her Highness, which is reflected in the diversity of international partners who contributed to planning this conference and participating in its activities."

He added, "The conference recognizes the importance of community engagement with individuals with autism and their families, both in Qatar and abroad. This engagement not only strengthens support programs in our country, but also enhances Qatar's position as a global center for community-based research and knowledge exchange in the field of autism spectrum disorder."

The conference includes panel discussions and lectures on key issues in the field of autism spectrum disorder, most notably diagnosis, treatment, education, community engagement, and other related issues.

Each session provides a platform for autism advocates, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and others to highlight cutting-edge solutions and share knowledge in this field, enhancing the pivotal role of the AutismTech Conference and consolidating Qatar's position as a leading hub that attracts thought leaders and experts from around the world in the field of autism spectrum disorder.
