Doha/Muscat

The State of Qatar welcomed the talks held between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran in Muscat, mediated by the sisterly Sultanate of Oman.

It also commended the positive spirit that prevailed and the statements made by both parties regarding them, in addition to the constructive role played by the Sultanate in this context.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) affirmed Qatar’s full support for diplomacy and dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues between the United States and Iran, within the framework of its firm belief in the importance of consolidating security and peace and promoting stability, peace, and development at the regional and international levels.

The Sultanate of Oman hosted a meeting on Saturday between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to launch a dialogue and negotiation process between Iran and the United States.

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, said that Muscat hosted a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to facilitate a dialogue and negotiation to reach a fair and binding agreement.

He added that the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere, which helped to narrow differences, thereby enhancing the prospects for achieving peace, security, and stability regionally and internationally.

Delegates from the US and Iran agreed to hold more talks next week after concluding “indirect” nuclear negotiations in the Omani capital, Muscat.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Saturday’s talks as having been conducted in a “constructive atmosphere and based on mutual respect”.
