Tehran/BeijingcTypeface:> China, Russia and representatives from the Iranian government are set to meet in the Chinese capital for discussions on Friday in light of growing tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated on Wednesday that the talks in Beijing would address the “Iranian nuclear issue and topics of mutual interest.” The discussions would be conducted at the level of deputy foreign minister, she said. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the meeting to reporters.
Recently, the dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme has escalated once again with Donald Trump back in the White House.
During his first term in office, President Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Vienna nuclear deal in 2018, which was intended to limit Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. (DPA)
