ViennacTypeface:> Austria’s new centre-right coalition government has agreed to stop family reunification procedures for migrants because it says the country is dealing with an overload of newcomers and the country is unable to absorb them properly.
The measure is to be passed by parliament as soon as possible and is temporary, the coalition government, made up of the conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and the liberal NEOS, announced on Wednesday.
Between 2023 and 2024, a total of 18,000 people came to Austria via family reunification, 13,000 of them children or minors, Chancellor Christian Stocker said. (DPA)
