DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in collaboration with Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF) and City Center Doha Mall, has launched the 12th annual Ramadan field campaign for voluntary blood donation and organ donation under the theme 'Giving the Gift of Life'.
The campaign is part of ALF's nationwide initiatives and community partnership with HMC. It also aligns with ALF's efforts to raise awareness about the importance of blood and organ donation and highlights their crucial role in supporting the healthcare sector and saving the lives of patients.
Chairman of Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani emphasized that the campaign represents a national responsibility in line with ALF's mission of supporting humanitarian and social initiatives. He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to supporting blood and organ donation campaigns, in addition to fostering public awareness of the life-saving impact of donation.
Acting Assistant Managing Director of HMC Ali Al Janahi commended the remarkable success of the Ramadan blood and organ donation campaign over the years, attributing it to the ongoing collaboration between HMC and ALF. He expressed appreciation for the continuous support of Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani and ALF toward HMC.
"The sustained success of this annual campaign highlights the public’s growing awareness of the importance of donating blood and registering as organ donors after death. We extend our gratitude to all supporters and hope this initiative will further instill the culture of life-saving donations, whether through blood or organ donation," said Al Janahi.
HMC’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Khalid Al Jalham said: "The blood and organ donation campaign is a vital initiative that plays a significant role in enhancing healthcare in Qatar and meeting the needs of many patients. We deeply appreciate our ongoing collaboration with ALF, which reflects a strong spirit of partnership and social solidarity. We hope this campaign will see strong participation from donors, helping to foster a culture of donation, bring hope to many patients, and ultimately save lives."
General Manager of ALF Abdullatif Al Yafei noted that the campaign's continuity since 2013 reflects its success.
"Over the years, we have witnessed an overwhelming response from blood donors, demonstrating the generosity of Qatar’s citizens and residents. Today, we reaffirm ALF’s vision to be a leading national and global humanitarian organization that promotes sustainable development, dignified living, and cultural and humanitarian engagement through various initiatives," added Al Yafei.
Director of HMC's Qatar Organ Donation Center (HIBA) Dr. Riadh Fadhil said that Qatar’s organ donor registry has exceeded 580,000 registered donors, accounting for approximately 28% of the country’s adult population. The number of living kidney donors to their relatives has been increasing annually, leading to a rise in kidney transplant procedures.
Dr Fadhil revealed the number of organ transplant procedures performed in 2024, which included 60 kidney transplants, 12 liver transplants, and one lung transplant.
