At least three people were killed in massive Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and the surrounding area, Russian authorities said on Tuesday while claiming major territorial gains of their own in the Kursk region.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s invasion with Western support for more than three years, but the focus at present is on the situation inside Russia as Ukraine decided attack was the best form of defence.
The Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday said 337 drones were shot down overnight into Tuesday in what is believed to be the largest Ukrainian drone attack on Russia this year.
The victims killed near Moscow were employees of a company in Domodedovo, around 30 kilometres south of the Russian capital, the governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, announced on Telegram.
The drone attack hit the company’s car park shortly after 5 am (0200 GMT) as the men were about to start their shift, Vorobyov said.
As a result of the attacks in the Moscow region, 14 people also required medical assistance, the governor added.
The Kremlin strongly condemned the drone attacks.
President Vladimir Putin had been informed, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Meanwhile, the Russian army reported significant territorial gains in the Kursk border area which was previously seized by Ukraine.
Last August, Ukrainian units unexpectedly grabbed a large part of the Kursk border region inside Russia.
