Qatar has reiterated its continued close cooperation with the United Nations and the bodies responsible for the implementation of the Doha 2015 Declaration and its recommendations to practical programmes benefiting countries and peoples in areas of education, training, justice and crime prevention.
Addressing the opening meeting of the Japanese Parliamentary Assembly for the success of the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, to be held in Kyoto in April 2020, Ambassador of Qatar to Japan HE Hassan bin Mohammed Rafi al Emadi reiterated Qatar’s continued commitment to supporting international cooperation on peace and stability.
Ambassador Emadi said the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the largest and most diverse forum in the world, had contributed for 60 years to the adoption of ambitious criminal justice policies and the strengthening of international cooperation to address threats of transnational organised crime.
He added that the Doha Declaration adopted at the Conference had strengthened criminal justice systems and the relationship between the rule of law and sustainable development.
He expressed confidence that the Kyoto 2020 Conference would be a great success addition to the Doha 2015 Conference towards the development of plans and programmes that will achieve the positive objectives of sustainable crime prevention, criminal justice, combating corruption and the rule of law.
Qatar, which deeply cherishes the existing friendly and cooperative relations with Japan and is an important partner with its keen interest in crime prevention and criminal justice efforts, is fully prepared to provide the necessary support for the success of the Kyoto 2020 Conference, Emadi said.
For his part, John Brandolino, director of UNODC’s Division of Convention Affairs, who was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as executive secretary of the Kyoto 2020 Conference, highlighted the success of the Doha Conference in 2015 in bringing together a large number of senior officials and achieving an ambitious programme that translated the Doha Declaration into executive action.
The international community is counting on Japan to build on the achievements of the Qatar conference to achieve greater success at the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, he said.
