Rome: Donald Trump Jr, the US president’s eldest son, is in hot water after video recently emerged of him hunting birds in the Venetian lagoon area of northern Italy.
The video shows Trump Jr describing the hunt while wearing military camouflage. Several dead geese, ducks and quails lie next to him.
Environmentalists accused him of having illegally shot at protected wild birds - including a red-orange ruddy duck rarely found in Europe - during the outing that took place at the end of last year. They are calling on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to hold him to account, despite his powerful father.
The left-wing opposition said that it would file a complaint against Trump Jr.
Andrea Zanoni, a Veneto regional councillor and Green Party member, said of the visit: “They can’t come here and act like the big shots.” The scenes were filmed in an area called Valle Pirimpie, which is designated as a special protected area by the EU. Hunting there is prohibited for foreigners.
The opposition also called for a statement from Italian Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. (DPA)
