Vietnam National Assembly’s Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan praised the efforts of her country’s embassy in Doha and the Vietnamese community at large for contributing to the promotion of relations between Qatar and the Southeast Asian country.
The Vietnam official, who is the first female to be named chairperson of her country’s National Assembly, is in Doha for the 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings.
Speaking during an event attended by community members at the Embassy on Sunday, Ngan encouraged her compatriots to continue maintaining their solidarity as well as to abide by the local laws and regulations. Currently, there are about 1,400 Vietnamese nationals in Qatar represented by the Vietnamese Community Liaison Board, which includes 10 members who offer help to expats in times of need.
Ngan first visited Qatar in 2009. During her meeting with the community, she also lauded the many changes she has seen in Qatar including the impressive infrastructure developments. Furthermore, she expressed appreciation for the organisers of the IPU Assembly in Doha.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Ambassador to Qatar HE Nguyen Dinh Thao underlined the importance of the participation of Ngan in the high-profile event in Doha She said the top Vietnam official’s participation to the 140th IPU Assembly in Doha will contribute to the strengthening of the relations between the two countries.
“The visit by the Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam to attend the 140th IPU Assembly follows the 25th anniversary celebrations last year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Qatar, which was a milestone. During the past years, the political relations between Qatar and Vietnam have been remarkably developed by leaders of the two countries,” the envoy said.
He mentioned the launch ofdirect flights by Qatar Airways between Doha and Da Nang, one of the five largest cities in Vietnam, as another major highlight of the efforts to strengthen bilateral relation between the two countries in 2018.
He added, “This event is of great significance for the development of Da Nang in particular and the Central region of Vietnam in general. It will boost trade, economy and investment sectors of the two sides in the future.”
