The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani will patronise the official opening ceremony of the National Museum of Qatar in its new building on Wednesday.
The Amir will deliver a speech on this occasion.
"Our national museum is our legacy and history,” the Amir said in a tweet on Tuesday. "Tomorrow we are reopening it again.”
The opening ceremony will be attended by heads of brotherly and friendly countries, as well as a number of prominent political, cultural, artistic and media figures. A large number of heads of international companies and institutions, museum directors, academics, film directors, celebrities and those interested in the field of heritage from around the world will also be present at the opening ceremony.
The spectacular interactive museum, designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, tells the story of the birth of Qatar geology more than 700 million years ago, giving Qatar a voice to define its rich heritage and culture.
Built in the shape of a desert rose, the futuristic 52,000-square metre structure is located on Doha’s waterfront Corniche. The national museum is, perhaps, the single most eye-catching design of all Qatar’s new buildings.
The museum’s iconic building’s entrance includes 114 fountain sculptures in a 900-metre long lagoon and the museum’s multi-curved roof, which resembles a giant jigsaw puzzle. It’s made up of 76,000 panels in 3,600 different shapes and sizes. Inside, there is more than 1,500 metres of gallery space.Amir to open National Museum of Qatar today
