Qatar and Austria have pledged to take bilateral relations to new heights with the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani holding talks with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen at Hofburg presidential palace on Tuesday.
During official talks, they discussed aspects of enhancing joint cooperation in various fields, especially politics, economy, investment, health, and education, to serve the interests of the two countries.
They discussed the latest regional and international developments, especially the situation in Palestine and the Gulf crisis.
The Amir also met Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz and discussed with him the ways to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and Austria.
Later, the Amir and the Austrian chancellor witnessed signing of two memoranda of understanding at the Chancellery in Vienna.
Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs of Austria signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on economic, trade and technical cooperation. The MoU aims to promote economic relations, improve the level of trade exchange between the two countries, encourage the establishment of exhibitions and mutual events between the two countries and exempt customs duties on some items of imports and exports.
Another MoU in the field of tourism between Qatar’s National Tourism Council and the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism in Austria was also signed. The MoU aims to develop and promote cooperation between both countries in this field.
