Maki Restaurant Group has opened its newest restaurant at Doha Festival City in
Doha, Qatar.
The restaurant has 128 seats with both indoor and outdoor seating which overlooks Festival City Mall.
“We are proud to announce that we have successfully opened our first franchised unit ever in Doha Festival City, Qatar”, said Joe Hajjali, Group CEO.
The restaurant opened to great acclaim from contemporary Japanese cuisine gourmands. The master franchise to Qatar was acquired by Foodsta Company, which is generally managed by Yousuf al Yousuf.
Yousuf has a vast experience in F&B and is already heading several concepts in Qatar.
Maki first opened its doors to guests in 2002 in Kuwait and since then has been a leading innovator in contemporary Japanese cuisine, reinventing traditional dishes in new and exciting ways.
Maki has been praised for its daring and trail-blazing creativity in the Japanese kitchen, combining global flavours and new textures, constantly working hard to stay creative.
Although it was first a small 35 seat restaurant started by two brothers, Oliver and Amer Zeitoun, the group now boasts six restaurants and this will be the third country in the GCC and their seventh restaurant.
Founder Oliver Zeitoun was always a big foodie, and was absolutely inspired by the Japanese kitchen and tradition.
The menu will be based on the original offering in Kuwait so guests can enjoy their favourite dishes while in Qatar. It is expected that the menu will constantly evolve to please the local tastes and preferences as in other markets.
Maki’s cuisine is based on Japanese dishes with a focus on sushi and maki. The ingredients used range from traditional Japanese ingredients such as yuzu and shiso to classic Mediterranean ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil and thyme.
As for loyal Maki diners, they are encouraged to collaborate with Maki’s chefs and design their very own maki roll. These special rolls sometimes make it on to the menu, named after the guest, so when the diner comes again they can be proud to order their combined creativity and interaction with Maki’s chef.
Maki is a family-owned business, founded by two Canadian-Lebanese brothers – Oliver Zeitoun and Amer Zeitoun.
