Around 62,000 Chinese tourists visited Qatar in 2018, an increase of 38 percent over the previous year, Chinese Ambassador to Qatar HE Li Chen has said.
The increase in tourist inflow from China has been attributed to the efforts exerted by the Qatar Tourism Authority to make Qatar a top tourist destination in the region.
The Chinese envoy said the increase in Chinese visitors to Qatar is due to the enhanced cooperation between the governments of Qatar and China. He said the exemption of visa by both the parties will introduce Qatar to the Chinese people and investors.
The number of inbound visitors from China in 2017 was 45,000 visitors.
Moreover, the Chinese envoy said, the ties between the two countries are getting stronger as the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani will be visiting China next week to discuss further cooperation between Qatar and China.
Wang Min, a Chinese tourist, who visited Katara Cultural Village, said he is visiting Qatar for the first time along with a group of tourists, and that it is their second stop in a long vacation.
“I really like it here. There are lovely beaches and this place is full of fascinating Middle Eastern architecture. The people here are friendly and generous. I would definitely recommend visiting Qatar to my friends,” Wang told Qatar Tribune.
Another tourist from the same group, Wang Lei said, “We had great time in the traditional Souq Waqif and had a great experience there visiting the bazaars. We also went on a desert trip to the beaches in the south and now we are just enjoying this lovely weather and there are many good photos to be snapped here,” he said.
