Lifting the blockade imposed on Qatar, and settling the differences through dialogue based on mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries is the only way to resolve the Gulf crisis, the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani has said.
The Amir was inaugurating the 18th Doha Forum, being held under the title ‘Shaping Policy in an Interconnected World’, at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha on Saturday.
"Out of our belief in the importance of views, the necessity of dialogue and the inevitability of diversity, we have been keen to keep the dialogue forums and networking platforms active and open for all to exchange views in a free environment irrespective of their intellectual perceptions and political affiliations, and this forum is a relevant epitome,” the Amir said.
He continued: "Dialogue is what bridges the gap between adversaries, no matter how intense the differences are; it is the point of inception and the point of conclusion in this difficult time. And this applies to the Gulf crisis, which is represented by the blockade of our country.”
"Our position on solving this crisis has remained unchanged: lifting the blockade and settling differences through dialogue based on mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. The issue of coexistence and good neighbourliness among nations is separate from any other issues,” he added.
President of Ecuador Lenin Moreno, Prime Minister of Somalia Hassan Ali Khairi, President of UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces and a number of ministers from different Arab and foreign countries attended the event. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, Shura Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud and ministers also attended the ceremony.
