The Saudi Aviation Investigation Bureau announced the crash of a "Tecnam" light sports aircraft and the death of its pilot after taking off from Al Thumamah Airport in Riyadh.

In a statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the bureau said it received a report that a light sports aircraft, which was on a training flight with a Saudi trainee pilot on board, had an accident after taking off from Al Thumamah Airport in Riyadh.

Five minutes after take-off, a distress call was sent from the pilot, then lost contact with him, it added.

A search plane was sent from the Aviation Academy, and the wreckage was located 5 kilometers north of Al Thumamah Airport, the bureau pointed out.

The Aviation Investigation Bureau formed a working team to uncover the circumstances and causes of the accident
