QNAKonya (Turkey)On behalf of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani attended the inaugural ceremony of the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games being held in the Turkish city of Konya on Tuesday evening in the presence of HE President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a number of presidents of Islamic states, heads of governments and guests.During his attendance at the ceremony, HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir to HE the President of the sisterly Republic of Turkey, and His Highness’s wishes to the brotherly Turkish people of further progress and prosperity.For his part, HE the Turkish President entrusted HE Sheikh Joaan with his greetings to HH the Amir, wishing His Highness good health and happiness, and the Qatari people further progress, development and prosperity.HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani also attended the dinner banquet hosted by HE Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in honour of the guests of the inaugural ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.The State of Qatar is represented at the Games by 112 male and female athletes in 14 group and individual disciplines. Hemeida wins Qatar’s first gold Bassem Hemeida clinched Qatra’s first gold medal at Games in Konya on Tuesday as he outperformed home hero and former Olympic bronze medallist Yasmani Copello in the men’s 400m hurdles final. Hemeida won the gold in 48.67 seconds at the Konya Metropolitan Stadium as Copello clocked a time of 48.86 secs to win the silver. Algeria’s Lahoulou Abdelmalik came third in 49.15 secs.
